Accelerate Tutors Ltd is a tuition business which provides a platform for tutors and Students to connect. We must process personal data (including sensitive personal data) so that we can provide these services - in doing so, we act as a data controller.

Parents / Guardians of children under the age of 18 seeking tuition for their children, or Students over the age of 18 seeking tuition for themselves, will hereby be referred to as Students.

You may give your personal details to us directly, such assigning up to our website. We must have a legal basis for processing your personal data for the purposes of connecting tutors to Students, we will only use your personal data in accordance with this privacy statement. At all times we will comply with current data protection laws.

We reserve the right to update this policy whenever necessary, in order to reflect the development of the platform and its functionality.

Collection and use of personal data

 Purpose of processing and legal basis

We will collect your personal data (which may include sensitive personal data)when you sign up to the Accelerate Tutors platform and payment services, and we will process your personal data for the purposes of connecting tutors to Students. When Tutors sign up, you will be asked to populate your contact details and to upload certain documents such as a copy of your Enhanced DBS, utilities bill, photographic ID.

How we will use your data:

  • Your identification documents will allow us to verify your identity and to comply with Recruitment agency legislation and Know Your Customer legislation
  • When you supply your bank details, this will allow you to receive your Tutor fee for completed lessons. All payments are handled by secure payment provider Stripe, we do not handle any payments directly and therefore are not PCI compliant
  • Submitting your data will enable us to check your application and your suitability to sign up to the platform and offer tuition services, it will also allow us to ensure you have the right to work in the UK plus the suitable experience and qualifications
  • When signing up to the platform, if you ticked to request to receive marketing emails such as tutor tips and latest industry news, then we may use your information to contact you via direct marketing such as email, push notifications or SMS.
  • In some cases we may be required to retain and use your data for the purpose of dispute resolution, outstanding payments, terms and conditions enforcement, investigating, reporting and detecting crime and also to comply with laws that apply to us.

We must have a legal basis to process your personal data. The legal bases we rely upon to offer our usage of our platform to connect tutors to Students are:

How we will disclose your data:

The data you provide to us will be stored on our servers and the servers of third party providers such as Stripe. Data Processing Agreements are in place with any third party providers to ensure they are fully compliant in their responsibilities of handling personal data.

We may disclose information on your live public profile to help Students / Parents make a decision to contact you, such as first name, location (town / city) and any other information that you have submitted to be live on your public profile. Once a lesson booking has been confirmed, we may disclose your address and contact details to the Student to enable the lesson to take place.

Relevant third parties are used to process information such as bank account details, by giving us your personal data, you agree to the transfer, storage or processing by these third parties. Please note, we will never give your details to third parties to enable them to provide you with information regarding unrelated goods or services.

We may use your data for the purpose of dispute resolution, outstanding payments, terms and conditions enforcement, investigating, reporting and detecting crime and also to comply with laws that apply to us.

If our business is sold or integrated with another business your details may be disclosed to our advisers and any prospective purchasers and their advisers and will be passed on to the new owners of the business.

Data Security

We take every precaution to protect our users’ information and take a privacy by design approach to the development of new features for the platform.

We will use all reasonable efforts to safeguard your personal information. However, you should be aware that the use of email/ the Internet is not entirely secure and for this reason we cannot guarantee the security or integrity of any personal information which is transferred from you or to you via email/ the Internet.

If you share a device with others we recommend that you do not select the “remember my details” function when that option is offered.

Data retention

We will retain your personal data for 7 years (from the date you were last active on the platform).

Where we have obtained your consent to process your personal / sensitive personal data, we will do so in line with our retention policy. Upon expiry of that period we will seek further consent from you. Where consent is not granted we will cease to process your personal data / sensitive personal data. 

We may retain records where necessary to fulfil any regulatory or statutory duties.

Your rights

Please note that if you withdraw your consent to further processing that does not affect any processing done prior to the withdrawal of that consent, or which is done according to another legal basis.

There may be circumstances where we will still need to process your data for legal or official reasons. Where this is the case, we will tell you and we will restrict the data to only what is necessary for those specific reasons.

If you believe that any of your data that we process is incorrect or incomplete, please contact us using the details above and we will take reasonable steps to check its accuracy and correct it where necessary.

We will update this privacy notice from time to time.  We will post any changes on the statement with revision dates.  If we make any material changes, we will notify you.
